Day 6

From Haydock Racecourse to Ludlow Racecourse today. 107 miles but relatively flat until the final 20 miles when we went up some biggish hills (the course planner says it’s all just training for the last day in Cornwall!).
For me was a high and a low. Wonderful countryside coming down through Cheshire and Shropshire. This really is well off the beaten track but is absolutely beautiful. For me the countryside here today in (mainly) dry sunny weather is England at it’s best. Rolling countryside with some wonderful old houses and farms to ride past.
The low point was at 50 miles when I strained the bit of my thigh that allows you to put pressure down onto the pedal. Despite taking ibuprofen and paracetamol the pain was still there if I used too much power. This means that every hill I went up had to be done only using my good right leg - this mad for a very slow, painful last 57 miles.
I made it and I’ve had some physio tonight and stretched it out. Herefordshire, Gloucestershire a little bit of Wales and then over the bridge tomorrow to stay at Bath Racecourse. The highlight tomorrow is that I will get to see Becky, Tom and Jack at the Severn bridge and then we’re going for some food in Bath.
3 more days of soreness, stiffness, pain and apparently awful weather - bring it on!
